JP GF Wiki Adventures 1 - Alternate Color List

Armed with Google Translate and some experience with Engrish, njay sets out to...do something.

Well, basically we know a lot about Gotcha Force, but the Japanese GF community has figured out a lot more. Most people won't take the time to do something so tedious as translating the wiki, so I thought I would try my hand at a few important pages/files to the best of my ability or at least sharing some of the resources I found. It's a good thing most of the English names are the same as the Japanese names.

It seems the old GF Wiki (or maybe the site it was hosted on) died a few years back and the one I'm looking at is a copy of it on a new site. Furthermore, most of the pages haven't been updated since 2007, which means the Japanese GF community has known all this stuff since 2007 at the latest!

So let's get started! This one's just a list of the borgs that have and don't have alt colors. Not particularly super interesting, but nice to have for reference, especially since we're still trying to figure this out in the English community.

My (njay's) thoughts:
Interesting. So the old theory of individual borgs and pairs/set isn't entirely correct. Instead, it's mostly based off of when they were added to the game. To support this theory, you can read the Development Article 10 (linked near the beginning of this post) in which the creator states it outright. Besides that, you can read the Development Article 25 which shows their early ideas for borgs. Looking at the alt list with the new theory in mind, it makes so much sense.

In addition, that would explain why the old theory made a lot of sense, but wasn't completely accurate.

I checked this list against Death Eye's alt color thread and the only one DE is missing was Carrier Heli (unless I somehow didn't see it). So I guess Met missions are in his future now.

Also lol @ Usagi. I didn't expect to see her on the list.

this thread... has blown my mind.

i have always thought that the JP community would be more knowledgeable about Gotcha's development, but i can't speak too much japanese, let alone read it. i played with the thought that someone out there had already translated all of these pages, but i guess that since our community is so small, that would be out of the question. That said, njay here is paving the way for us to better understand this game, from the inside out, like our fellow GFFs in japan. If i had the time to do so, I would totally help out, but alas i have not.

WHAT?! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE! MY LIST BEING INCOMPLETE?! INCONCEIVABLE!!!

In all seriousness, though, I shouldn't be so surprised about this; I don't recall ever having seen an enemy Carrier Helicopter out of Met's control and I can never get any other form of any Borg controlled by anyone as far as I can tell, so I wouldn't have had any way of getting it.
I'll see about glitching one up in Dolphin for the sake of a screenshot at some point in the near future and adding it to the list... then spending the next 700 hours trying to figure out where to find a Carrier Helicopter that Met isn't controlling so I can get one for myself.

I'll see about glitching one up in Dolphin for the sake of a screenshot at some point in the near future and adding it to the list... then spending the next 700 hours trying to figure out where to find a Carrier Helicopter that Met isn't controlling so I can get one for myself.

I've seen that page. It's actually more about random spawn patterns, which you'll need to know if you don't want to waste your time. It's just a matter of translating mission names and borg names. They're pretty much the same so it's rather simple. Simple, but tedious >.>

I'm actually working on that excel file. It's like a data base of spawn information for the purposes of rare hunting. It's pretty big so I'll probably post it when I finish one tab. Here's a preview of the tab I'm working on . i.imgur.com/OdVW0.png

Edit: Actually, I'm also translating a General FAQ and one of the things they said was that borgs controlled by a GF Commander are never rare (unless they join in the middle of a battle). So you'll probably have to use the random spawn pattern information to find a rare or alt Heli.

That does seem to be a discrepancy between the Japanese and English community.

It's possible that I've mistranslated it, but I don't think that's the case. They go on to say that rares can only be found "in the wild", you can't find rares in "Training with..." or "Battle with..." missions, and that there are only 4 exceptions in which a commander joins in the middle and can have rares. (Showdown with Nekobe (Kitsune), Retake Serenity Street (Sho), Retake Mana's home (Mana), and the Final Battle (everyone).)

It's also possible that it's just really rare for them to occur and they haven't seen one yet. But that is unlikely since the Japanese community is much larger than the English.

Maybe when they changed the language, it indirectly affected other aspects of the game. I don't know much about game coding or programming, so I don't know if there are differences between English Gotcha Force and Japanese Gotcha Force other than language.

It's also possible that the devs fixed that bug in the English version after the Jap version already came out.
